The Journal of Interactive Media in Education (JIME) was launched in September 1996. To mark the 30th anniversary year of the journal, we have assembled a virtual special collection of the most frequently viewed papers published in JIME to-date, identified using JIME website metrics. Alongside the papers from the JIME archive, this virtual special collection also includes two editorial papers. In the first,  we introduce the papers in the collection and also narratively situate them against a backdrop of trends in topics within the journal in each of the three decades that have passed. In the second, we present invited accounts from previous editors of the journal, to reflect on the origins and evolution of JIME.
